Plumbing and drinking water hygiene
Aurora Engineering designs plumbing systems with a focus on drinking water hygiene: potable water installations to DIN 1988 and VDI 6023, hot water generation with Legionella protection, foul and rainwater drainage to DIN 1986, fire-fighting water supply and special media for laboratory and hospital areas.
Water is essential to life and a hygiene risk in buildings when pipes are wrongly sized or water stagnates. We design potable water networks so that water flows, temperatures are right and operators can meet their obligations under drinking water regulations.
Scope of services
What we design in plumbing
Potable water installation
Pipe network calculation to DIN 1988-300, material selection, circulation, flushing concepts against stagnation.
Hot water and Legionella protection
Central and decentralised hot water generation, temperature maintenance, ultrafiltration, sampling points.
Drainage
Foul and rainwater to DIN 1986-100, lifting stations, backflow protection, grease separators, roof drainage.
Rainwater and greywater
Use, infiltration, retention and coordination with landscape design and drainage applications.
Fire-fighting water and extinguishing systems
Wall hydrants, fire-fighting water transfer, separation stations, coordination with the fire safety concept.
Special media
Ultrapure water, compressed air, vacuum, technical and medical gases, laboratory drainage with neutralisation.
Who it is for
Who this service is for
Operators of hospitals, care homes and hotels
with elevated drinking water hygiene requirements and documentation duties.
Housing and office clients
who expect economical, low-maintenance installations with a long service life.
Laboratories, pharma and industry
with special media, aggressive effluents and ultrapure water requirements.

Standards and guidelines
Standards, key figures and quality
Standards and guidelines
- DIN 1988 and EN 806 (potable water)
- VDI 6023 (hygiene) and DVGW W 551 / W 553
- German Drinking Water Ordinance
- DIN 1986-100 and EN 12056 (drainage)
- DIN 14462 (fire-fighting water)
- DIN 1946-7 and EN ISO 7396 (laboratory and medical gases)
Quality factors and key figures
- Cold water below 25 °C, hot water above 55 °C at every point
- Stagnation-free networks through series and loop installation

Frequently asked questions about plumbing design
How do you prevent Legionella in potable water installations?
Through temperature maintenance, short pipe runs, circulation without dead legs, series or loop installation and a flushing concept for rarely used outlets, documented in the hygiene concept to VDI 6023.
Do you also design rainwater retention?
Yes. Retention, infiltration and use are part of our drainage concept and are coordinated with the municipal drainage application.
Which special media can you design?
Ultrapure water, compressed air, vacuum, technical gases, medical gases to EN ISO 7396 and laboratory drainage with neutralisation systems.
Planning plumbing or a potable water concept?
We advise you on hygiene concept, drainage and special media.
